OUR STANDARDS

Under the Canopy adheres to the most stringent sustainability standards to provide earth-friendly products to the conscious consumer. Whether it is the prevention of pesticide sprays on cotton fields or testing for toxins and carcinogens in dyes, each component of manufacturing is scrutinized and optimized to make the best quality product.

Certifications

GOTS

Global Organic Textile Standard

Our GOTS certified cotton textiles ensure that the raw materials, manufacturing and distribution of Under the Canopy products are free from harmful toxic substances such as heavy metals, GMOs, toxins and carcinogens. Even better, all of our processes adhere to fair labor standards.

Organic cotton is cotton that is produced and certified to organic agricultural standards. Its production sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people by using natural processes rather than artificial inputs. Importantly organic cotton farming does not allow the use of toxic chemicals or GMOs (genetically modified organisms). Instead, it combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote a good quality of life for all involved.

OEKO TEX

Confidence In Textiles

Oeko-Tex ensures the elimination of common toxic chemicals in textiles. It prohibits the use substances and chemicals that are proven to be harmful to humans, as well as those that remain unregulated by the government – so that our products are better for the earth and safer for your skin.

RCS

Recycled Claim Standard

When organic fibers are not an option in sourcing, we opt for recycled materials to maintain a holistic offering of sustainability in every single product. Each comforter and pillow is filled with RCS certified polyester recycled from post-consumer plastic bottles `{`rPET`}` in both the fashion and utility collections.

Comprising about a third of our overall fiber usage, the addition of rPET to our product assortment upholds our mission: Conscious without Compromise.

Developed by the Textile Exchange

FSC

Forest Stewardship Council

Under the Canopy is committed to supporting the ethical development and use of fabrics that safeguard our world’s forests.

This policy is aligned with, and builds on, the work of Canopy, who collaborates with brands and retailers to ensure that their supply chains are free of ancient and endangered forests by 2017, as part of the CanopyStyle Initiative.

C2C

Cradle To Cradle

C2C certified products are assessed across five quality categories: material health and reutilization, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship and social fairness. Individual products receive achievement in each category from bronze to platinum just like the Olympics.

The C2C standard aims to reduce toxic chemicals, water and energy from manufacturing; create recyclable products that will last a lifetime, and promote safe working conditions in manufacturing facilities. This approach thinks of materials as belonging to technical or biological cycles, keeping valuable resources such as mined metals or plastics in a ‘closed-loop’ process that could be repeated. Certifications are obtained by reviewing the product, the chemicals used and manufacturing processes by the C2C Institute, and is part of the LEED V4 certification.

Third-party certification entities guarantee our high quality materials, fair labor standards, and low impact production. Close tracking of our process from seed to shelf ensures that every step of our production process meets the Standard’s strict criteria. From the farm to the corporate office, our products and facilities are audited and approved each season for verified claims to the policies we uphold.
